Georg Schmidt, Regional Representative for Sub-Saharan Africa and Sahel, made an official visit to Gaborone. From February 21 to 23, he met senior officials in the State Department, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Ministry of Tertiary Education and Research, BDP and opposition MPs, representatives of civil society and business. He also met with SADC Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Tax and with the press.

Schmidt once again promoted the concept of the “Compact with Africa” and stressed that Germany and Botswana will continue to work together, especially in the field of vocational education; currently a project is underway which is jointly financed by the German and the Botswana side and has 16 experts from GIZ working in that field.

Germany supports efforts for regional integration by SADC; the Regional Representative explained that Botswana offers a limited market and foreign companies' investment in Botswana only makes sense if they take the whole region into account.
