Phase two of the Participatory Initiative for Social Accountability (PISA II) in Lesotho was agreed
The EU in Lesotho aims to make a contribution towards democratic governance and the efficient and cost-effective provision of public goods and services in Lesotho. In 2016, the European Union and the German Government, (through the SADC portfolio) partnered with the Lesotho government to jointly finance PISA, a nationwide civic education programme. A second phase of PISA was always envisioned, with continued support from both the German Government and European Union (EU). PISA II is a country component of PSGG, which is integrated into the broader framework of German Governments support to economic integration in the SADC region (CESARE). CESARE is implementing PISA II with an EU contribution of 2.95 million EUR, and a German contribution of 700,000 EUR, with a timeframe of June 2019 to May 2022.
The overall objective of the Action is to contribute to more efficient and cost-effective provision of public goods and services. Specifically, the Action aims to strengthen collaborative local responses of citizens, community formations, service providers, state representatives and traditional authorities to improve service delivery. The second phase of the Action (PISA II) will aim to further promote, deepen and consolidate its civic education approaches, while at the same time working towards sustainable institutionalisation of the programme.
